HISTORY

Then...

Harry Klein served in the Philippines during World War II. Sergeant Klein was, among other things, in charge of making sure all necessary supplies got to the front lines. During his service he met a British serviceman, and they became friends.

Following the end of the War, Mr Klein collected and sent much needed clothing and other necessities to England. The need was great due to the devastation from the war. Out of this friendship, Harry was eventually offered a distributorship for the products his British friend manufactured.

Incorporated in New York in 1950, the company was originally based on Long Island NY. Imports from England would "Ride the Tide" into New York, and thus Tide-Rider was born. Tide-Rider has seen three generations of family continue the legacy of supplying sporting goods and accessories to the American public and beyond.

Upon Harry's death, his wife Marie took over the business. Upon Marie's retirement, her daughter Linda and husband Jim carried the baton. Jim is an all-around sports enthusiast, and a hockey nut. While watching sports on television, Jim has been known to identify the whistles used on the field or court when they're blown.

And Now...

The company moved it’s headquarters to CA in 1991. and Linda and Jim's son, David, is currently continuing the family legacy in Oakdale, CA. Tide-Rider has been at the forefront of innovation in the whistle industry, and has embraced every new development.

Dave Smith is currently focusing on the safety aspects of electronic whistles during the current global pandemic. He is also quite a sports enthusiast and, like his Dad, is also a hockey nut. During playoff season, Dave grows a playoff hockey beard along with our local team, The San Jose Sharks.
